O’zapft is! – The Gold/Wiesnbier ratio 2020

The Munich Oktoberfest has been held since 1810. This year it would have been the 187th Oktoberfest. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to the corona pandemic. But this should not stop us to publish our Gold/Wiesnbier-Ratio 2020.

Cancelled several times

Even if it is the first time since the Second World War that the Munich Oktoberfest has been cancelled, it is not the first time, as the odd number suggests. Like this year it was wars and serious diseases that led to a cancellation. For example, Napoleon, cholera or the First and Second World War. So we are sure that the Oktoberfest has seen worse things.

What does it say?

As the name Gold/Wiesnbier-Ratio already suggests, it shows how many measures of beer you can buy with one ounce of gold. It thus shows how the purchasing power of gold changes in relation to beer. It is of particular interest, since the price of beer is increasing by an average of 3.8% per year. Currently, the purchasing power of gold is well above the average.

Irish Stout

This year we did not only look at German beer, but also made a trip to Ireland and looked at it for Guinness. Thus, we have for you a double IGWT-special.
